Fasteners Association Europe (FAE) is an informal group comprising eight companies involved in the fastening business – mechanical, thermal and chemical as well as setting and assembly equipment.

Its aim is to simplify the purchase of fastening products for members’ customers outside their home country.

If you are looking for a new supplier of fasteners – particularly if you want to source from a number of countries – please contact your local FAE member in the country listed on the left.

History – new name, new world

FAE grew out of Modern Fastener Club Europe (MFCE), which was founded in 1967 by a group of leading European fastener distributors who were aware that business would change dramatically in the coming years – not least because of globalisation.

At its annual meeting in October 2007, MFCE’s members recognised that fasteners, fastening technologies, their markets and marketing, have moved well beyond the vision of forty years ago – and that a new profile was required to encompass all types of assembly techniques and the 21st century way of doing business.

“We realised that we needed a new name and image,” says FAE President Philippe Graber of KVT Switzerland. “‘Modern’ sounded slightly risible and ‘Club’ is not universally used to describe an association.”

Technological developments

“In changing our name to Fasteners Association Europe, we are reflecting that ‘fasteners’ encompasses a wide range of assembly techniques and all kinds of fasteners and systems,” he said

“Traditional, mechanical fasteners are only one means of holding parts together – FAE members also offer chemical and thermal fasteners (including adhesives and welding), setting equipment and sonar bonding.

“Their businesses reflect the technological developments and market changes that have brought in lighter weight materials and ever more efficient manufacturing processes,” he added.

While the FAE is centred on Europe, its members market worldwide and they look forward to welcoming non-European organisations to the Association.
